Hi,

I just bought a FOP38 HS and I'm having a tough time getting it mounted.
- the HS came with what I believe is a thermal pad already on the fan with a protective piece of paper which you peel off - do I still need thermal grease?
- secondly, I tried to use a phillips screwdriver to push the clip down, but the hinge ended up flying off. I managed to get it back on, but I'm wondering if there is any simple way to get this puppy on?

Thanks

First off, get the thermal pad off and use some grease. Then bend the mounting clip slightly so it is not so tough to get on. I had the same problems with mine at first, and I damaged one corner of the cpu, but it still works.

Thanks,

I managed to get it on ok, but I didn't have any grease. I'm not planning to overclock the CPU so I think the pad should be ok.

The store I bought the heatsink recommended plugging the fan directly into the PS instead of the motherboard. I have a 400W PS, any thoughts?

The fan that comes with the FOP38 draws too much power for some motherboards. So the recommendation from that store was a good one. You should get a 3 to 4pin converter and plug it directly to the PSU. I don't have the FOP38, however I do have the FOP32. Same heatsink but different fan. The clip was a breeze for me to use. Got it on within a few seconds. Just use a crosshead screwdriver between the fans and push down at a angle on the clip til it reaches the lug on the socket and push the clip in to lock it, then release.

Ok,

Hindsight is 20/20 as usual. I have the heatsink mounted with the thermal pad supplied. The OEM processor I bought today had a sticker on the top of the processor (along one of the edges). Should I have removed it? And, if so, can I do it now after I've mounted the heat sink?

(also as seen above, should I connect the HS to motherboard or directly to the PS?)

thanks again
