I'm calm...I'm calm...<taking a deep breath>.

I had a 4 port hub where 2 computers hooked to it (one is NT Server and the other is NT Workstation). The cable modem was hooked to the uplink of the hub. I used special software to share internet connection to the 2 computers (All Aboard 2.2).

All was fine until this.....

I bought a D-Link 5 port 10/100 Auto Switching (DSS-5+) which is an advanced form of a hub, right?

I plugged the 2 computers's cat5 cables to #1 and #2 port. I plugged the cable modem connection to the uplink. I see a light coming on saying that the Full Duplex/100Mbps was working.

The problem is I can't make any connection to the internet and each computers refused to transfer any files.

What did I do wrong?

The cable modem is 100mbs/FD? Doesn't sound right. You didn't use a crossover cable did you? Or did you try a crossover cable to a standard port? On the switch, sometimes you cannot use the port next to the uplink if you use the uplink. Sometime there is a button to turn uplink on.

There's some ideas... :)

No, I'm not using any crossover cable and I know when to use a crossover cable. ;)

I shouldn't have to do anything special to it.

The RoadRunner in Charlotte area delivers 30Mbps downstream/128KB/s upstream.

I have this switch, if you have something in the uplink port you cannot use port one for a computer. The uplink and port1 are shared. The reason why it says its running at 100Mbps is because its detecting the computer, not the modem. Just move the computer that is in port 1 into the 3rd port and it should be fine. Hope this helps.
