Hey guys, long time since I had a hardware problem but here it is.

Monday I went to install Vista Business (from my school msdn). It would not detect the hard drive. It kept saying no hard drive found compatible or some BS. I googled and found it could be an issue with USB, but i didnt have any usb devices plugged in or set as a boot priority, basically I could not figure it out. It does let me look at it and format it and partition it fine.

I decided to disconnect everything non vital to install. So I opened up my case and disconnected all my hard drives besides the Raptor (my os drive).

Then I powered it up and here is where problems began. The PSU starts then quits 2 seconds later. Immedietly I thought the PSU fried. I ordered a new PSU with newegg that came today.

I bought a Corsair 750. The corsair powers up and stays up, my mobo powers up too. So it looks like this PSU is working. However I get no video and no post. The fan on the video card is running.

At this point im lost. I dont have any other computer to diagnose. I will try to get one next week to start testing but wanted to know if anyong had any thoughts.

As another note, I upgraded the BIOS on the motherboard hours before this started. If that matters. The computer was running just fine though.

My hardware:
Abit P35-E
PC Power and Cooling Turbo Cool 510 Express (3-4 yrs old)
2gb Crucial Ballistix
MSI 4850
Razer soundcard

At this point i think the mobo is dead, but im not sure. I really hope the video card is fine, its only a few months old.

I just can't believe what could have caused this, never had anything like this happen. I always buy quality hardware.

And on another note I started an RMA ticket with PC power and Cooling on monday and have yet to get a response (SIGH). These PSU's have a 5yr warranty.

Chances are that your CMOS needs to be reset.

Check your MB manual for the correct procedure.

Unplug from the wall and remove the battery from your motherboard. Leave it out for a minute or two to make sure everything is discharged etc. Put back in the battery, plug back in, fire back up and tell us what happens.

Thanks for the reply. That was on my list of things to try but I had run out of time and forgot. When I get a chance (out of work) I will do that.

The cmos jumper on this board is so hard to get to when you have cards plugged in. But I had taken out my sound card so it should be easy to do.

Ill try the battery too if i get no luck with the jumper.

Problem solved. Forgot my old Crucial Ballistix needed 2.2v to boot up. I actually never had that issue with this motherboard before. But count on a new BIOS to screw things up. Looks like the new bios is more sensitive to that i suppse. Plugged in some other ram, changed voltage and i was back in business.

And still waiting on my PC Power and Cooling RMA 5 days and counting... i think im gonna have to call.
