Hi guys, I have a Dell Dimension 8100, and am looking to switch out the motherboard and replace it with a motherboard that can take DDR instead of Rambus or RDR. I want something that's fast enough to play World of Warcraft and cheap enough to keep some cash left in my pocket. Can you give me any suggestions ? or even pointers as to things to watch for to make the transition from one motherboard to another as smooth as possible? Thanks =)

I don't know about the dimensions, but in the optiplex series you can't swap out for a standard system board.
You might end up buying a new case...which isn't too bad. Nothings as ugly as dell cases.

THanks for the reply man, I hope I don't have to buy a new case, but that may end up being the case... (no pun intended) Hopefully someone who has experience with my computer can tell me?

You'll need to buy a new case if you are using a retail mobo since it will not fit in the Dell case. As for the processor/socket type, I think it is Socket-478, so look for a board that uses that socket and allows for the use of DDR ram.

Ascendtech has a Dell 845pe board that might work with your case, Check the dimensions and backplate carefully. It's listed in pricewatch under motherboard and "dell".
