I have an SMC 7008ABR with 3 desktop units and a file server on it set up for static ip address and a wireless AP (laptop set for DHCP). All computers can acess the file file server. For some reason I can only access the internet/e-mail from the laptop, all static ip machines will not acess the outside world.

Everthing worked fine yesterday morning and did not work that afternoon

I have tried resetting and reflashed it the router with no luck. Anyone got an ideas?

Thanks in advance

Might be that you want to check the actual IP scheme and what is assigned to each device on the Network.

Check the Router to make sure that the static IPs are not within the Router's DHCP range, but are on the same subnet.

I did a check on all that everything is good This network had been run 3+ years without any problems.

All Static IP are below the 192.168.2.100 (DHCP starts at 100)

I guess I'm going to RMA it to SMC...

thanks

Pleas do not take personally; the following is a general comment.

This wide spread remark ?It works before? always make me laugh, and be apprehensive at the same time. 99% of things work until they do not work. So it is Non sequitur information as regard to the understanding what is wrong Now.

Nothing taken personal. I make the statment just to show the age of the network/ router.

Going to call SMC now for RMA #

Thanks

Have you checked the DNS settings on the static IP computers compared to the DNS settings on your DHCP laptop? Can you ping the actual IP address of the DNS servers from the static machines? It doesn't happen often, but it's possible that your ISP changed the addresses of their DNS servers and the addresses set up on the static machines are no longer valid.

I'd check...IP, mask, gateway on all systems. That will get the IP settings out of the way.

Then ping www.google.com. That will tell you if you have good name resolution and can reach the internet.
