Need help please...

I have had to reinstall Win XP Pro on my wife's computer. During the installation I received a long error message beginning with "sub-component COM+ raised an exception while processing....". However it did give me the option to continue, which I did. Upon completing the installation, Win XP was unstable and spontaneously rebooted until I finally shut it down.
I decided to start from scratch again and repartitioned, reinstalled, etc, but I got the same message.
I also ran a Repair from the repair console but it didn't seem to help.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would try the following, if possible: get a copy of memtest on a bootable floppy and check your RAM; if RAM checks out, try loading from a known-working DVD or CD drive; check for proper seating of your drive cables; use the utilities from your HDD mfr. to reformat the drive before your next install attempt; go into your BIOS at boot-up and load default settings, save and exit before install.

As alzan suggested, you may have a hardware issue.

To identify if you do have a hardware instability, use memtest and let it run for a few hours (preferably overnight).
If you get no errors, your RAM is OK. If you do get errors, you can try reducing the RAM overclock or increase VDIMM in the BIOS.

If you pass memtest, try prime95 torture test for a few hours (preferably overnight). If it stops running, your CPU is not stable. You can improve your CPU cooling or reduce CPU overclock or increase VCore in the BIOS.
