I just finished building my Comp., but it won't boot up. It will run POST but it takes a very long time. I can get into BIOS, but only after a long time. It doesn't have an OS yet, but I tried to boot XP and it says " booting from CD" but it never does. If anyone has any ideas please help. TIA.

I would reseat the memory, video card for starts. I would then try a different stick of memory. Only boot with the necessary items installed so leave things like modems, sound cards, etc. out and install them later. You can also try booting with the motherboard not installed in the case because there could be a short somewhere.

I thought it might be an issue with pc3200 ram with the board, so I swaped an older stick of pc 2100 and no luck. I don't have anything in the PCI slots. The only thing I have is a DVD burner on one IDE, a hard drive on another and the Video card in the AGP slot. I will try to reseat the card, and if I can I will try to boot with the mb outside. Thanks for the ideas.

Just check to see if your hdd gets detected immediately in the POST, press ESC at POST if you got a logo. The IDE devices are checked last, so it could be that it's checking for the HDD and that's why it's taking so long. The HDD could be defective.
