Need help picking term paper topic!

I read Siddhartha, Steppenwolf, and Demian, by Herman Hess. I'm not quite sure what I should specifically write my term paper on. I am in 11th Grade AP Language Arts. All three books deal with the main characters search for self, and also the different "worlds" (crime, good, light, dark...). I could write about the main character's journey of self discovery. But i have to link my topic to herman hess or a writing style (something thats real, instead of fictional characters).

To give you an idea of what kind of topics my teacher is looking for here is two examples she gave:

Easy Topic: The Holocaust using Maus, Maus II, and The Diary of Anne Frank.
Difficult Topic: Views of transcendentalism using Emerson's Essays, Melville's Moby Dick, and Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man.

I am gonna do my term paper on the three Herman Hess books I read, but I am not quite sure what my topic will be. If anyone has any ideas/advice then let me know. Thanks!

who is herman hess? has he discovered himself? i dont know of anyone off the top of my head, but i would write about someone (famous?) who's gone through time discovering his/herself... kinda hard to suggest anything when i know nothing about the books other than what you said!
