Need help picking switch for school project

Hi and TIA. my highschool offers a class that prepares you for the CCNA test. for a project we're doing, i need to find a cisco switch that has 24 gigabit ethernet ports plus atleast two 1000base sx ports.

can anyone help? i've been looking and i can't figure out whether the Cisco Catalyst 2960G-24TC-L supports more then one 1000base sx port. i know i need to add the sfp module to add the port.

anyway, does anyone know of a switch and appropiate sfp modules that can fit these needs? cost is irrelevent.

the 2960G-24TC-L has 4 dual-personality ports that can be configured as either copper or sfp. only one port can be active at a time, and if both are connected sfp takes priority.

look into the GLC-SX-MM for an sfp...

as a matter of fact, those are exactly the ones i found. but i don't understand one thing, can i add two of these and have two fiber ports?

look at the bottom switch...each one has 4 dual-personality ports. 20 copper/4 sfp, 21 copper/3 sfp, 22 copper/2 sfp, 23 copper/1 sfp, 24 copper/0 sfp.

thinking about this again, if the requirement is 24 gigabit ports PLUS 2 fiber, the 2960 wont fit the bill. look into the 3560G-24TS instead.

thanks again for all the help. i do however, have one more request. i need to find a router that has atleast two 1000base sx ports, and that can handle the capacity of a university. does anyone here have experience? i'm looking and looking and i can't find one.

i do plan on having an all gigabit network with video conferenceing so performance is important. can anyone help?

where does the requirement for fiber ports come from? just because the switch has them doesnt mean you have to connect your router using them. if anything, use copper when available.

"capacity of a university" means nothing without hard data. none the less, the cisco 7200vxr w/ NPE-G2 has 3 sfp slots and does about 2million pps.

indeed it is. and i do need to connect the switches by fiber to the router. one of the requirements my teacher gave us.

by "capacity of a univeristy", i meant a router that would typically be used in big universities. again, i understand that means little. for the project, i need to design the network for two floors. obviously, no university is 2 floors. but if you say that the 7200vxr is sufficent, then i'll take it.
