Need help picking out X-mas presents (RPG games)

Both of them like RPG's, offline hopefully, I don't want to make them into Evercrackheads or anything. I am a FPS guy so I don't know much about the RPG world.

My brother's specs:
AMD 2500
512 RAM
GF2 pro

My dad's specs:
AMD 2500
512 RAM
Nvidia 5950 U

My brother played Morrowind and Dungeon Siege and like them both but he would like to try something that is not D & D based if possible.

My dad's last game was Diablo 2, and since he has the new system (NV5950) I would like to set him up with something that would flex the muscles of his video card but doesn't require tons of button mashing or hyper quick reflexes (he is 60)

Thanks for any opinions/help/referals

Knights of the Old Republic, and Vampire: Bloodlines looks really good, but I haven't played it.

edit: And KotOR is turn-based, so no frantic button-mashing there.

I'm finally playing SW:KOTOR now myself and it's technically D&D-based under the hood, but D&D is well hidden and it's a lot of fun. (Force powers use rules for spells, swinging your lightsaber makes an attack roll.) Combat is much like Dungeon Siege: pausable real-time where the attacks are based on skill vs. armor checks rahter than you swinging with the mouse. It's actually more fun this way than in Morrowind.

Great 3D graphics, a good storyline, and multiple ways to resolve problems. It's not quite up to the level of the all-time best PC RPGs (Fallout 1-2 and Planescape: Torment) but looks nicer and is well worth playing.

there arent too many GREAT cRPGs out... buy a PS2 and get them like Star Ocean or something... either that or pick up Bloodlines because it's supposed to be rockin'

Umm.. I played it with a 9600 pro. So I'd be doubtfull about the gfx quality on that card.

Does your brother have Warcraft 3 and the The Frozen Throne expansion? Although it's sort of a a RTS with a little RPG flavor. I almost mentioned it in my OP. That should play fine on the GF2.

Hard to say, but if he could stand Dungeon Siege on a GF2 it might be the same, the box says it will at least run on a GF2.

You might consider getting him KOTOR and a gf3 or gf4 ti (not mx!) from the FS/T forums 🙂
