I went to the Officemax sale today and they were out of the ATP3's so they substituted the IBM 345's. I already own a pair of Altec Lansing ACS45.1's.
I want to replace the 45.1's because the covers are torn and new covers will probably cost a lot.
Here's the specs on the IBM345's:
Frequency Response - 30hz to 18khz
Woofer - 20 watt 6.5" bass/midrange driver
Satellites - 3" full range, 5 watts each.

Here's the specs on the ACS45.1's:
Frequency Response - 35hz to 20khz
Woofer - 20 watt 6.5" long throw woofer
Satellites - 3" full range, 6 watts each.

While the IBM's have 5hz more low end, they lose 2khz on the high end. I am somewhat of an audiophile so I'm worried that the 1 watt less and the 2khz on the sattelites will make a bit of sound difference. Is this something so minor that I won't notice a difference or will I?

18-20khz is inaudible by some and barely detectable by most. as for the 1 watt, it is pratically nothing and you will not notice it. If you are truly an audiophile, I suggest you save up some money and buy a receiver and some bookshelf speakers, you will get MUCH better quality in terms of sound and power.

i vote whould be for the IBM one, it's probably better to use a matching set of speakers, they were designed to used that way, so why not keep it that way.

ArmenK, getting reciever and real speakers can cost alot, it's much cheaper to get klipsch or monsoon mm-2000. those speakers are great and will rival any low-end to mid-end home hifi system.

Hmm guess I'll try out the ibm's and see how they do. Thanks for the input. :)

As for a receiver and real speakers I'll probably wait until we buy a home in a few years. Then I can plan to do some interesting things audiowise.
