So I really want a touchscreen notebook. Fry's has their promo-code deals. Here are the two that are running - any suggestions as to which is better deal or I should otherwise get?

The one above is $549 with the promo code. Today only.

This one is $398 with the promo code. Have a couple days:

Obviously less money is better, but is the extra for the first one well spent here?

Thanks for any help!

How much do you intend to use it as a laptop as opposed to tablet mode? The HP is top-heavy, so it will probably be more awkward to use in your lap than the Asus.

Not quite sure sphenodont. BUT, I expect to use it only in bed shortly before bed. For surfing web. I guess I'm not too worried about whether its a little more awkward - more wondering if the specs on the HP are sufficiently better to make it worth the extra cash. Plus, it looks like it can be used like a tablet, but the other cannot, correct?

Thanks!

The HP can undock from the base for a "cleaner" tablet mode. The Asus keyboard flips over into a tablet, but it will be heavier and thicker that way. For casual use in bed, I'd say the HP is probably better (with the caveats about refurbs, and all...)
