Hello, I am going to build a new system and I wanted some tips, information, and suggestions on hardware.. I already have a AMD XP 1900+ CPU, Lite-On DVD-ROM 16x/48x, Mitsumi Burner 16x/8x/40x.... But I still need to get a Case,Fans,Heatsink,Floppy,HD,Memory(DDR),Motherboard, and a Network Card

Case: I was wondering which cases are better to get, I want one that has efficient cooling, but not too loud (like maybe a harddrive fan,one in back or maybe 2, and maybe top or side panel fans. Most people that I asked said that case is up to me, but i want your opinions of a good and price worthy case maybe $110 or under..also what companies make good cases?.. this is the case i found ( myurl ) Please post your suggestions and tips on good cases that i can pick from

Fans: What fans should i get installed extra? What companies make good fans?

Heatsink: This is one of the main ones... what heatsink should I get.. what company makes good heatsinks too!?!?.. which are better copper or aluminum..etc.. tell me about please advise me on which heatsink to get for a AMD ATHLON XP 1900+ processor and maybe overclock it, i want very good heatsink.. even if it cost like $40

Floppy: I heard sony makes the best floppy drives.. what do you think? *this is not a big one*

HardDrive: From my cousin I heard maxtor makes the best HD's what do you say?... whats the difference between 7200rpm and 5400rpm... does it make a difference.. worthit?.. please advise on which HD to get!!

Memory: Which brand of MEMORY should i get.. i heard corsair or crucial.. i want to get 512mb of DDR memory...dont know which brand to get that is very good and cheaper than rest but at same performance and quality

*IMPORTANT*MOTHERBOARD*IMPORTANT*: This is the biggest i need help with choosing, because i need a good mother board.. i heard ABIT makes the best motherboards for XP Athlon processor and they have 4 DDR slots... i do not understand that much on the chipsets either.. but i was advised on getting the ABIT KR7A-Raid-133 .. What do you say?

Network Card: Which network card should i get? I was told that Linksys makes good network cards, and its only like $15 on Newegg.com

Thank you, Please give me your tips, suggestions, and opionions PLEASE!!!!! Im going to build this pc and need your advice!!

mother boards: MSI are very competitive. im usin one right now n loving it! the one i have even supports RAID configuration. MSI support is lousy. but not that u would need to call them :) their product is solid

network cards: 3COM is like the mercedes in this arena. cost a lot too! but if u have the money, only the best will do it. do not buy anything D-Link produce.

case: enermax from newegg, this is a very nice aluminum.

hd: quantum, now... maxtor is the company makes quiet harddrive. i have no complaints with my current maxtor. the old ibm was extremely loud. but i heard ibm is very robust, last longer.

mouse: not that u asked.... but can i interest u in the ultimate! mouse?

1. Sony or Teac make solid floppy drives.
2. Maxtor makes solid HD's.
3. As for RAM, go w/ Crucial as their quality is top-notch as well as their customer service and support.
4. Linksys for the network card would not be a bad choice.

The above points are based on my experience w/ my own rig and building rigs for friends.

Oh, and welcome to forums biofobia :)

Here are my recommendations:

Mobo: I agree with luv2liv. MSI boards are hard to beat. The live update feature for bios, drivers, utilities, etc. is an outstanding feature that every manufacturer should deploy.

HS/F: I'm reading lots of good things lately about Thermaltake's Volcano 7 but have no personal experience with it. I used plenty of their 5 and 6 series though and they worked well. I'm getting very good overclocking performance (with an acceptable noise level) from a Thermaltake 6025A-2B 60mm fan on an Alpha 6035 heatsink.

HDD: Maxtor and Seagate are both reasonably fast and extremely quiet. You won't go wrong with either one.

RAM: Crucial DDR. End of story.

FDD: Get whatever is cheapest. The technology hasn't changed in 15 years. If they haven't nailed it yet, they never will.

NIC: Save a few bucks. Walk by the 3COM's and Intels; grab a Linksys.

From my experience.
Maxtor hdds last the longest, and are the quietest. I can't tell the difference speed-wise.
Linksys makes the fastest Network card.
Shuttle AK35GTR for under $110 you get KT266a chipset / Highpoint raid / 4 dimm / 6 pci / 6 channel audio. And is highly stable / overclockable.

I have no experience with this, but I like this heatsink.
And you chose a good case with a good PSU. Enermax brand PSU save you all the headaches that no brand PSUs cause by unexplained problems.
