Need help picking a vid card!

I need to know what kinda video card will give me badass 2d and decent 3d. I'm buildn't myself a much needed pc and I really need a card. But I don't know what to get. Think about it as a budget card. Nothing badass yet. Post your picks, thanks!

I would look at MATROX Millennium G450 32MB DDR/VooDoo5 5500(if you have the $$$) or Matrox 16MB Millenium G400 AGP4X/VooDoo3 3000

Maximum PC had almost nothing good to say about the Matrox G450. The G400 was a great card in it's time, but is dated now. It really depends how much you can afford to spend. The Hercules Geforce 2 Ultra is supposed to be the best(or one of the best) cards out there now. Not in my price range however.

Does The Hercules Geforce 2 Ultra have good 2D? or is it just fast?

Matrox G450 32MB $137(just a little bit less)

you should look at the ATI RADEON 32MB DDR too or the NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS 32MB(does it have good 2D?)

what do you plan on doing with this card? Bigtime gaming? If so, what games?

If not, are you just going to be running mostly Internet and Office type applications?

What is your budget?

Also, what kind of monitor do you have?

DEFINITELY Radeon if 2D is most important. Best well rounded card on the market right now, IMHO.
