I have a Toshiba 27AF42, it is a 27" TV but slitghly wider then a lot of other models due to the speakers being side mounted rather than in the bottom front. I am having troubling finding a TV stand or entertainment center that i like to fit it. I would prefer it to be a modern color such as black, or silver, but would also consider light colored wood. No darkwood colors. If there is extra storage for DVD's that is a big plus. It only really needs to accomdate the TV, a VCR, Receiver, PS2, and preferablly one other unit such as a Tivo. If it also includes a nice conveinent space for a center channel speaker(6.2 x 15.25 x 8.6 HxWxD) that would be awesome. SO anybody with this or other 27" TV's, what are you using and what do you recommend? Thanks

Yeah that is kinda nice but a little to small for my needs. I can work with something a little smaller then I am asking for, but I think I need more then 2 shelves.

forget about an all in one unit. a simple base stand from any cheap store like target will do. cheapo chipboard one works with my 27" flat with side speakers. cuz the base size is all that matters since it doesn't try to totally engulf the tv. buy separate media towers.

Yeah thats what i was thinking of doing, but I just didn't want to limit the suggestions to that.

One more question I have, this one relates to speaker placement.

If I am forced to mount my center channel on top of the TV, putting it a foot or so above ear level while seated, should I try to mount my front left and right speakers at that height or at ear level?

I guess I should mention I am getting the Onkyo HT S760, so those are the speakers I will be dealing with.

Also is it better to have the fronts standing up and down, or can they be laid down on thier side?

I'm simply using one of these as a perch for my (defective--soon to be replaced with HDTV model) 32" TV. That's right--it's a coffee table! I chose the coffee table because it's real wood (it's cheap imported rubberwood, but any real, actual, finished wood looks better than simulated laminated woodgrain any day). I can't stand fake woodgrain-laminate particle-board crap. An easily affordable real wood "entertainment center" or "TV-stand" that fit my space was not around to be found.

A wall-mounted shelf above the TV holds the center channel speaker. The lower shelf of the coffee table accomodates a Harman/Kardon HT receiver on the left, a Harman/Kardon 5 CD carousel on the right, with a JVC XV-SA600 DVD player (a really, really nice "last year's model" $200+ prog-scan unit that was on clearance at Crutchfield for $99--Score!--J&R still has some for $99.88) sitting atop the CD changer. The downside (pardon the pun) is that my Tivo and VCR are currently under the shelf resting on the floor--I'm still working out a solution that works out and looks nice.

I'll post some pics of my set-up once my new digi-cam arrives (and I figure out the computer software for it).

Toshiba doesn't have its own TV stands for that line of TV? In my experience, getting the same branded stand as the TV is always the best way to go.

the center speaker should be aimed downward towards listening area. others should be at correct height.
