My dad wants to get my mom a laptop for christmas for the trips they take. It doesn't have to be state of the art but it needs to be light and good for digital pictures, any advice?

Before someone locks this thread, I'll make a few reccomendations.

If you want something that's easy to use and of good quality, the Apple iBook is a nice bet. AppleCare (3-year warranty) is a very good idea; it's an additional 250$, but in the long run, it's worth it. The bottom-of-the-line iBook is a good performer; it's also quite portable.

If you want a PC, ASUS makes nice stuff. An Asus Z33A, availible at JNCS.com, only weighs about 2.8 lbs. For about 1500$, you can get one with a 1.73 ghz Pentium-M, and 512mb of RAM. The 9-cell battery is nice, but it's an additional 150$.

If you want to go for a reasonably priced laptop, the Acer AS3003WLCi is a nice bet. It's got a 15" widescreen LCD, a Mobile Sempron 3000+ processor (essentially a Mobile Athlon 64 with 64-bit extentions disabled, and less cache). It's nothing special, but if you throw in a RAM upgrade (an easy install which won't void your warranty and will run you about 50$), you can have a rather nice notebook at a low price.
