You have no Canon's on your list?
RossMan should be along any minute to slap you.

There aren't any, unless you count the S1 IS (cheaper and less MP than your other choices) or the Pro 1 (more MP and more expensive than you other choices).

Of those, the Sony easily.

Very happy with my Canon a75, though I think it's below the price range you're looking at. Take a look at the digital Rebel, as someone else mentioned. I'd steer clear of Sony.

I love my old F-707 more everyday. It almost can't take a bad picture!

Thanks to Netopia, in this thread, I was able to snag a Sony DSC-F707 for a $632.95 price match at a local Sears. She's got over 12,000 images for me since July 2002. If you don't mind the bulk, (or dreaded memory sticks  ) the F717 is a super bang for the buck! I've gathered and posted a few links about it over the last year and a half:

Features:
  • Multi-Point Auto Focus
  • Slow Shutter Noise Reduction
  • Hologram AF Low Light Laser Focusing Assist
  • Multi-Pattern Measuring
  • Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar Lens
  • NightShot®
Bottom Line
  • If you want a long lens zoom 5-megapixel camera, either model is very hard to beat. I don't know of another camera that can best it overall, dollar for value. - Peter iNova
Digital Photography DSC-F717 Review
  • "...Even a year on from my DSC-F707 review I find myself unable to name a new five megapixel prosumer digital camera which takes better pictures than the DSC-F717, and that is saying a lot."
Steve's Digicams F717 Review
  • "...I find it safe to say none will out-perform the F717. From the high resolution 5MP 2/3" imager and the ultra-sharp Zeiss lens to the robust and accurate image processing, this camera is sure to satisfy even the most demanding of users..."
Imaging Resource F717 Review
  • "...you've got an "enthusiast" camera that stacks up against anything on the market. Sony innovations like NightShot and NightFraming are just further icing on the cake. Despite its sophistication though, the F717 manages to remain a very user-friendly and approachable camera - There's no reason for a novice to pass it by in favor of a lesser model, as its full-auto mode is as easy to use to use as anything out there."

From that list. The F717 is the best IMO...

I think I am going to pick one up if I can get it on the cheap to go with my DRebel.

the Fuji S7000. You can find one around $400 or less after rebate. It's a true 6mp camera. It uses regualer AA battery and compact flash car.

Have you even looked at the Panasonic DMC-FZ10? 12x E.I.S. Zoom and Leica Lens.
