i think the mobo is dead..but heres what happens. i power it on, and nothing turns on except for the fan. no lights from cd rom, pc, etc.

so..help?

Start with the simple things, remove keyboard, mouse, etc. Even a dead keyboard can cause a no post. If it still doesn't work, try resetting the cmos with the reset cmos jumper. If it still wont come on, strip it to bare minimum, reseat the main components (just mb, cpu, ps) and see if you get any beeps.

does your motherboard have a diagnostic set of LEDs? most intel motherboards have a set of 4 LEDs that turn either amber or yellow, and quite a few amd boards contain similar components (7 segment LEDs, beeps, etc)

this is probably the easiest way to diagnose a problem

If you see lights on the mobo, but they dont turn on, check your power supply with a multimeter (can borrow one or pick one up at rat shack for about $10) and check your 4 pin PSU connectors. (you should see 2 ground, one 5v and one 12v)

hope this helps
