Need help patching Neverwinter Nights Diamond edition!

Hopefully one of our gaming geniuses can help me out 🙂

I just got the Diamond edition of Neverwinter Nights (dvd), and as you may know, there's some kind of improper file issue that prevents the game from properly auto-updating a clean install. as seen at the faq page, there is supposedly a fix on the disk, but it hasn't helped me as described. http://nwn.bioware.com/support/known.html#48

Bioware apparently claims this to be some kind of publisher's issue that wasn't there fault, but the long and short of it is, I've tried to make heads or tails out of their support FAQ on this, and it doesn't seem to help. I'm also contacting Atari technical support via email, but we all know how that's apt to go.

If there is someone who is familiar with this issue and can please detail it more clearly than the Bioware website did, then please help! 🙂

fyi: I've tried repeatedly to go through this process, including multiple failed attempts at updating which ensued after running the critical patch mentioned. Each time took me a couple of hours for the dl (dialup, I'm on a mountain!) just in order to verify that it had vailed again to update. I can save the file, but it cannot be simply executed, and apparently that alone would leave something undone.

Did you try the NWN forums at Bioware? Or other unofficial forums?

Also, the Bioware website does have some downloadable full patches that don't require using the auto updater, but I have an older edition so I have no idea whether using them would solve your problem.

Edit: Bioware patches

Thanks Dave. I'm trying one more of those patch options, although it's maddening to have to get a file more than twice the size than the one I should've needed.

After all of the time I spent loading patches already, it's irksome, since even a bit of surfing is difficult on dialup during the transfer, but I'm using a dl manager to get it on and off.

The way I see it, whoever compiled this edition failed to test the autoupdate even ONCE or they'd have discovered the file snafu and the resulting failure.

edit: and yeah I spent hours searching forums and looking through those patches. Oh well. I'll get it fixed eventually, but shame on the publisher for all of this grief.

Atari's reputation is in the mud these days, and last I read they were heading towards bankruptcy because of it.

Bioware has bad luck sometimes, look at what happened to Interplay.
