Specs on system:
Dual P III Slot 1 600 Katmai Processors with Gorbs with artic silver as a heat transfer medium.
256 meg PC 133 Centon RAM
Tyan Tiger S1832 Dl Rev F Mobo
Vodoo 5 5500 AGP card
SB Live Platnium 5.1 with Live drive 2
4 80 mm fans and 1 120 mm fan
Sparkle 300 wat PSU.

Right now, i can only get it up 103 mhz FSB and the processors running at 650 mhz. When I try and set the fsb in the bios to 133, it locks up, and says that I am attempting to OC it, and this may result in system instability. Any help would be appreciated, as i am very new to this over clocking thing.

Have you tried any of the settings between 103 and 133? Seems a bit unreasonable to expect a CPU to make that big of a jump.

Yep, I tried 112, still same error message. Says it can cause instability. But according to some members here, the KATMAI processors will do 133 FSB.

Couldn't you simply ignor that message? SHould be possible to disable the warning in the bios. Did you actually manage to boot at o/ced speeds?

Did you make sure you changed your PCI divisor so that your PCI bus isn't running at an impossible speed, ie., WAY OVER 33Mhz? ;)

I'm not that familiar with the Tyan boards but I know the Abits allow a 1/4 divisor for the PCI, particularly geared towards bus speeds of 133Mhz or more.

I turned off the message, but it still won't boot. any jumpers i should look for, I can't find the manual for this board on tyan's site. .

POOF, What do you mean by that?

Ack!

Unless your motherboard can auto-adjust the speed of your PCI card bus (which is normally 33Mhz), then you need to manually do that.

Normally, if you run a motherboard's "Front side bus" speed at 100Mhz, then your CPU runs at 100Mhz (x a multiplier to equal your CPU Mhz), plus your memory runs at 100Mhz (even if it's 133Mhz). However, an AGP card wants to only run at 66Mhz, so the motherboard can be set to reduce the 100Mhz bus speed down by 2/3 to approx. 66Mhz, ie., 100Mhz x 2/3 = 66Mhz. Similarly, the PCI bus wants to only run at 33Mhz (!!), so the motherboard can adjust that by 1/3, ie., 100Mhz x 1/3 = 33Mhz. (By default, most mobos come setup this way already)

So... if you're trying to overclock by increasing your FSB to 133Mhz but you don't change the AGP or PCI frequencies (or they don't auto-adjust), then you'd have your AGP as: 133 x 2/3 = ~89Mhz and PCI as: 133 x 1/3 = ~44Mhz. Some hard drives and other PCI cards can't handle that 44Mhz (and some can barely go over the default 33)!!! So motherboards that allow you to overclock often offer a way to set your AGP & PCI so that they're not running too far outside of spec!!!!

Again, I'm unfamiliar with the Tyans but hopefully there's a setting in your BIOS under the advanced options for AGP/PCI divisor (or similarly worded statement).

if my memory serves me correctly(which is can at times ;)) if this is an early week Katamai 600, you're not gonna go anywhere. Intel could barely get the first few weeks to run at 600, much less any higher. did you bump the voltage(i may have missed it)

I'd try one cpu at a time to find out if one or the other is capable. What you are trying to accomplish is a difficult feat with P3 600 Katmai. 700 was about the max for the core, and 650 is probably realisticaly the max you can hope for on those. 133MHz fsb, is out of the question. 112 is a real stretch.

Ahh Katmai! I missed that!

You're gonna need coppermine if you want to overclock up to 133Mhz FSB.

Hey ulfwald old friend I have to agree about the coppermine`s Vs Katmai cpu`s they dont OC very well no matter what week (I know some would dissagree) Also I would opt for cB0`s steppings to make the majic 133fsb in dual config... Sorry to rain on your day :(

I don't believe so. I was talking 700E. Doesn't make sense to get a 600 now, as there isn't much diff in price.
