From what I understand, the p3's multiplier is locked. So i would need to change the bus speed to overclock. I cannot over clock from my bios, so I would have to change jumper settings.Heres the problem:

I have a p3-450 which i purchased from gateway.I didnt recieve a motherboard manual, so I didnt know what type of motherboard it is, nor do I know what the jumper settings are. So I called Gateway and they told me I have a Intel BX w/Audio R3. I figured I could maybe find info on the intel website, but there's no listing for that type of motherboard!

So I looked in my PC, and I found what looks to be a set of 16 jumpers. I called Gateway again, and asked what the jumper settings are. They told me that : Jumpers 1&2= Normal, Jumpers 2&3=Enable.
I am even more confused by this.

Can someone tell if there is possibly some type of downloadable program that I can use to change my bus speed? If not, is there a way to find exactly what type of motherboard I have, and what the jumper settings are?

I really appreciate any help I could recieve and I apologize for the long-ass post!!!

If I understand it correctly you bought a Gateway PC with a P3 450 in it and you are trying to overclock it.

Unfortunately, you can't expect much and you might want to just forget about it, except as a learning experience. Firstly, Gateway's PC's, and virtually all OEM's PC's, are not made to be overclocked, although some tweaking may be possible. Secondly, the P3 450 is not likely to be overclockd to any significant degree, but you never know.

The CPU multiplier is locked so you can't do anything there. You may be able to adjust the system bus speed or the voltage in the BIOS, but, if not, then maybe with jumpers or dipswitches on the motherboard. Without a mobo diagram or manual all you can do is look at the mobo very closely with a magnifier and good light. Look for small tables printed on the surface that somehow match the number of jumpers and/or dipswitches you may find on the board. The table(s) may not be near the jumpers or switches. All you can do is try to interpret the tables, if any, as best you can.

If you want to overclock you really have to build your own PC.

Good luck.

P.S.
Don't try to trace the mobo - it is undoubtedly made expressly for Gateway to their specs and it'll just be a waste of time. All the info you need, and will be able to get, is on that mobo in the tables, if any.

change the the jumper to "enable" i'm guessing here but it should give all the option in the bios, when it's on normal they're hidden.

i know they do that with dell conputers
