i am trying to overclock my duron 600 to 800 MHZ but it will only register as 600 with the dipswitches set for 800. here are the settings i used according to the latest manual from asus site-
i moved the jen jumper to pins 1-2
i set the FSB bus switches to all in on position for 100 MHZ FSB
i set the multiplier switches to all on except number 2 & 4
i looked at my duron and the L1 bridge is solid line, i also left the voltage switches alone on board and didin't change it in bios, would this prevent it from posting at 800? someone else from another forum told me the asus manual is wrong to read the switch settings in opposite way from what manual says, i tried that and got some kind of siren when i turned the power back on. had to turn power off and switch settings. i currently am running in jumper free mode at 107 MHZ FSB with optimal settings rock stable. would like to try 800 MHZ or higher but am at loss as to what i am doing wrong. i have 300 watt power supply and FOP-38 with 7200 RPM fan so i don't think that is factor here. also am running 1004D bios. thanx for any help anybody can provide.

I successfully overclocked my 600 to 800 but it took a bit to figure out.
First of all, in jumper free mode, you can only change the core voltage and FSB. This impedes things as you can't change the frequency multiplier, therefore, you can't reach 800Mhz.
I set the motherboard to jumper mode, changed the core voltage to 1.675, and looked in the manual for the frequency multiplier settings. There are 2 places in the manual to look. The one with the pictures of the dip switches "IS" wrong. They are all backwards, so look at the table that shows you the dip switch position "on" or "off"

ex. 800MHz = 100 * 8.0 = on on off off on off off on on off

The above is just an example, its not the real settings.

After that, there was no problems! The system posted, and ran fine. My cpu was running at about 48 degrees C.

Pretty cool, spend under $100 for a processor that out performs the PIII!

i also tried it 700 and got same results. i am beginning to think it is locked eventhough it looks like bridges are closed.

I change the voltage using the jumpers since it seems to like it more. I initially had some issues where it wouldn't POST or boot while in JumperFree so I turned it off. Solved the problems for me.

You will have to use the jumpers, they are located by the CPU. Thats the only way you can set the voltage and frequency multiplier together. In jumperfree mode, you can't set the frequency x. As I said, for my 600, I set the voltage to 1.675. If you are using an HB pencil, make sure you do a good job connecting the bridges and don't overlap. I also wouldn't recommend using the pencil for a perminant connection.
