what procedures should i start with to overclock my 866?
also what is a safe speed that can be reach? (no need to gamble here)
here are my specs:

P3 866, 133 fsb 256k
Asus CUSL2-C w/ Intel 815EP chipset mobo
Award Bios (jumper-free = allows me to set everything in Bios)
PCI 32mb ddr Annihilator2 Geforce2 MX
384 sdram

my settings are
running: 866 mhz
multiplier: 6.5x (seems to be locked)
fsb:sdram:pci ratio: 133:133:33
lower voltage available: 1.70v

i.e setting speed to 906 mhz = 135:135:35 ratio
so on so forth. how high can you go on w/o major risk?
does higher heat from fsb, sdram & pci require me to get extra chassis fan?
what else should i modify or other approach to ensure good result?

thanks a ton

With default cooling and a bit of luck, you should be able to get up to 975MHz (6.5 x 150) without too much difficulty. You may need to increase the voltage a bit as well. Generally it's difficult to get Pentium IIIs up much past the 1GHz mark.

All you simply need to do is set the speed to manual in the BIOS, and then select 150/150/37.5, assuming that your RAM will hold up to that speed. If not, then change the FSB/SDRAM ratio to 133:100, then select 150/117/37.5.

I would say that additional cooling is not really needed.

Pentium III processors are always multiplier locked....there is no way around this.

If you can't boot or get into Windows at 150 MHz, you could start from where you were and work up slowly a notch or two at a time. When it gets squirrely, then increase your voltage .05 and try again. A better cooling solution is always better when you're making the chip do more work and produce more heat than it does nominally.
