Buying a new monitor.

Can't decide between Samsung 900NF and KDS AV-195TF.

Both about same price, but which is better?

If you recommend other 19" monitor please advise.

Also pricecheck if you happen to know a good price for them.

Thank you

I own the Samsung monitor, and personally rank Samsung above KDS as far as quality goes. I have never seen that specific KDS monitor in person though, but I have nothing but praise for this 900NF of mine.

What do you mean by "loud when" you "open" it??

Is it loud warming up or something??

I've read about an unusally noticeable horizontal pincushion prob with Samsung monitor is it true?

Also KDS as an "auto center" button that automatically centers and fills the screen when you change resolutions... Does Samsung monitor have something like that??

I have nothing but praise for my KDS AV-195 TF. Two of my cousins bought one each and they are also very satisfied according to my mom.

As for the degaussing sound, there is an easy solution: crack rc-5 for team Anandtech ;) and just use power management to make your monitor sleep after a while. No degaussing then.

I would go for the Samsung, because of the name. And because it's one great monitor, simply the best performance/price ratio, comparable warranty policy to KDS. And best of all, great quality, reliablility, performance and image quality.

Both KDS and Samsung monitors are made in Korea. You here more problems with kds monitors because many more people have kds monitors. The KDS will have better colors than the 900nf due to the trinitron tube over the diamondtron tube.

*DON'T* get the 900NF, get the 900IFT. I made the mistake of buying the NF and then had to send it back in exchange for the 900IFT. Here's why: the NF uses a standard trintron type aperature grille display, which means you're going to see those annoying 2 thing black lines lines from the wires that hold the grille up to the screen. The 900IFT uses Samsung's new DynaFlat technology which eliminates the 2 lines across the screen. It's awesome and hands down the best monitor I've ever owned.

LTELABS: Just because YOU notice those 2 annoying lines doesn't mean every one does.

Edgy, i recommend you look at both monitor and decide for youself. If you looked right at the screen and then HAD to FIND those
" annoying " 2 lines then don't worry cuz most likely you won't even notice them like me and all of my friends don;t. I have to specifcally look for those lines for me to notice them and even when i do it isn't annoying.

I don't even notice the 2 lines on my 700NF, which uses the same tubes as the 900NF.

Yeah i never notice it unless i have to find it. I just hate it when the first thing people say about SHADOW MASK and TRINTRON monitors is that trintron mointors have those " 2 annoying lines." There is more important things than just that, like the fact that the design of the tubes are very different with each offering their own disadvantages and advantages.

I'd say get whatever one fits your budget and is widely available.

I've recommended the KDS AV-195TF to many people, (15+) and everyone who's actually bought one (7+ people) has been very satisfied with it. I had a friend who bought both the Samsung _and_ the KDS and he couldn't tell the difference between the two, so I would assume quality is very similar. The only difference is the tube technology - one is Sony FD Trintron and the other is Mitsubishi Diamondtron NF.

here we go again... i had seen MANY of those side by side... and i tell ya what: the KDS has sharper image and better saturation. LG flatron btw, is on par with FD trinitron, superior to Diamondtron NF. isnt what inside that counts? as for the brand name, both companies make various products ranging from the top of the line (AT-195TF) and literal POS, so its a non-issue. however, it should be noted KDS has THE best warranty there is as far as i know.

BrotherMan: I agree with that warranty bit. Their customer service/tech team is also willing to actually talk to you regarding problems you might be having with their monitors.

I guess that's why I trusted myself to get a KDS AV-21TF, which I'm still using right now, and loving every 21" of it! :)

LTEtabs: I admit, the 900IFT is a great monitor, but no way the 900NF is a bad monitor. The NF is supposedly a higher end monitor than the 900IFT, you can tell from the price and the specs. Yes, the NF is based on an Aperture Grille tubes, but many are NOT bothered by the two *extremely faint and thin* lines.

<<here we go again... i had seen MANY of those side by side... and i tell ya what: the KDS has sharper image and better saturation. >>

Oh yea? Not everyone's eye sees it the way you do. Im sorry that reflects nothing but your eye's prefference.

<<LG flatron btw, is on par with FD trinitron, superior to Diamondtron NF.>>

Excuse me? The LG FlatTron tubes were NOT made by themselves, last time I check there are two companies in the world that are capable of producing Aperture Grille monitors, Sony and Mitsubishi. Since the FlatTron has a grille pitch of 0.24, I would assume that it's based on Sony's technolgy. And no, its not superior to DiamondTron NF.

Well, know this, Samsung also offer similar advance replacement programs in their warranty. Samsung as far as I know, has comparable warranty to KDS.

The_Wildcard: Im sorry I just cant stand how some people rave about their KDS, and underrate the Samsung soo badly.
