Need Help on WINXP Pro LAN setup

I have 2 systems running WinXP Pro (System 1 - desktop , System 2 - Dell Inspiron 8100 Laptop). The laptop is docked using the 3Com Integrated Ethernet while the desktop has a Linksys 10/100 Ethernet. Both systems are connected to a Netgear RT314 DSL Router. Both systems are ABLE to connect to the Internet (DSL). Both systems have the same user accounts setup (i.e I login to either computer using the same user account name with Admin priveleges). Both systems are members of the same Workgroup.

The problem I am having is that they can't see each other under My Network Connections (at least not consistently). Sometimes (on the laptop) I am able to see the System 1 (desktop) in My Network Connections but unable to access it when I double-click the computer icon. Then there will be other times when no computers show up under My Network Connections.

I thought setting up a LAN under WinXP is a lot simpler from previous versions. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I have always had that problem, even in my 200 days. Did you try run:\\ip.address.of.other.comp to connect to it.
I do that with both machines, then i can see them in my Net Hood.
