need help on video card

hello everyone
i just joined this forums
ok iam building my first computer and need some help with it
Iam thinking of building a AMD machine

the specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Winchester core)
Thermaltake case
( Thermaltake Dream Tower Series -Tsunami VA3400SWA)
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe nForce4 SLI (motherboard)
Corsair Value Select Memory 184 Pin 1GB DDR PC-3200
Western Digital 200 GB (SATA)

my main question is which video card should i buy for this specs

Redeon X700 Pro 256 MB or Geforce 6600 GT 128 (both are the same prices)
which one has better performance and good for the future.

Thank you very much

Performance wise the 6600GT blows the X700Pro out of the water for the most part even w/ only 128mb. the X700Pro was meant to compete w/ the plain old 6600 not the 6600GT. and 256mb is somewhat of a waste on an X700Pro.

6600 GT, no question. It's a much better performer, and with that SLI mobo you've got the option of upgrading on the cheap in 6 months or a year.

Because we're not anal enough to require a court order to post hardware questions in the hardware forum. Yes, the question is about a video card choice, but both question and answer depend to a great degree on the overall system setup he's assembling -- hence, "general hardware."

And who cares anyway? What exactly is general hardware? Would you limit the topic to riveting debates over cable ties?

"At least a video card is hardware...

What I meant was "at least" it was a "hardware" question posted here, instead of one about "software", that seem to be so popular these days. 😛

yeah, Geforce 6600GT is much better than the Radeon X700 Pro

i agree.

but when I was reading reviews I came across X700 XT and I found out that it is head to head with 6600 GT and it has the 256 MB version.

do you guys konw where I can buy that or is it not for sale

thanks

Alright guys

I think I'll go with the Geforce 6600 GT 128MB

and put 2 GB of memory

so what do you guys think of my rig (its my first time building a computer)

thanks

you guys known where i can get the

LeadTek Winfast PX6600GT 128M PCI-E

because i will be going with Geforce 6600GT!

and is this a good card?

thanks

I don't think you are going to see much (if any) benefit of 2GB of RAM over 1GB. I'd take that money and put it away for the next upgrade or something fun.

Sure you will , things (games) will stay residant in memory longer which causes shorter load times, the system will overall perform better.

Hes just razzing ya cause the RAM choise is enthusiast level where the video card is not.
