Currently using a P4 2ghz 1gb ram.

I have been wanting to upgrade for a while and was wondering what I should get. I don't mind if it's Intel or AMD. I mostly will be using this for gaming but I'll also use it for multitasking such as video recording/encoding. Any help is appreciated :)

Budget is around $1000-1500

from 1000 to 1500 you can do really well. I'd recommend AMD because it's usually a little better bang for your buck with games. Are you an overclocker or are you going to run stock speeds?

Nope just stock speed, never played around with overclocking since I have no knowledge in it. But any ideas what I should get?

CPU, Mobo, Ram, Case is the main thing so far but anything else would help.

I'd get the stuff in my sig, and an antec lanboy. I just grabbed another 512 of ram, actually bought a gig (2x512) of corsair. My mobo is not a big overclocker. My video card is about the best bang for the buck.
I wanted the 64 bit functionality, cause it'll keep me interested for awhile. You can build some serious system for the money you're talking, and save a lot of money on the mobo and processor to put towards a top notch video card.
I can't swallow the 500 bucks for an xt800 platinum, so I'll wait a year and save a couple hundred bucks.
Pick a balance you like and run with it. If you're building cutting edge stuff, you won't be happy with what you built in a month, anyways.
