Need help on painting and mounting spoiler.

Yes, I've noticed there's quite a few car threads in OT, and also noticed there's many of u who are quite experienced and knowledged with cars.
Just wondering if anyone knew anything about painting/mountinga spoiler, preferrably if you have done it b4.
i have a 1995 black sentra and bought some OEM spoiler. It came unpainted, it's gray. I heard i had to prime/sand it? any truth to that?
And about color matching, my car is black... is the black spray paint i buy gonna be off by alot? thanks.

Well...to mount it first you have to get it really drunk and then....doh...wrong kind of mounting. Never mind.

never understood spoilers on cars that are not performance cars.

and I wondered about why ricers put wings on their Japanese import ricebombs... the idea is to get downforce on your drive wheels.. why put spoilers on FWD cars? WTF?

Val, 9 out of 10 spoilers are non-functional, and half of the ones that are functional will never go fast enough to make a difference. It's a fact, people just wanna add extra lines to their cars, they just look better (when done tastefully).

You are going to have to sand it blah blah, primer it and maybe spray a clear coat then get the paint code on the drivers side door and get that paint. No two blacks on cars are the same. Some can be metallic and some be deep black, etc.

Edit: If you need specific instructions, i'll ask my dad.

Edit: If you need specific instructions, send me money, the spoiler, and a paint chip of the vehicle. After all, it's part of what I do for a living... I ain't gonna just give it to ya.

it will be best if you take it to a body shop and
have them match the paint to the car. As far as
installing it goes, you're skill level will determine
how many extra holes are in the trunk when you're done.

If you've never done it, i'd leave that to the shop too.

Thats because 9 out of 10 are big ricer wings on ricebomb cars

the 1 of 10 that is functional is on a domestic muscle car like a Z28 or Trans AM

Yes, it's not one of those crazy looking spoilers. It looks like a factory spoiler from Nissan. I was just thinking about mounting it (professionally), and then repainting the whole car, which would create a perfect match, but cost a lotta money. But I asked around, and they were charging like $99 just to paint, and $40 to mount. WTF? I saw spray can at Pep Boys for $3.49. I'd pay $10 for 3 cans to try it myself. Thanks.

This might be the funniest thread so far this week. Only a blind man is going to think it will look good spray painted.

Also valhalla I haven't looked but you want to bet cash that the spoiler on yoru precious transam/firebird/camaro isn't function in the least? The very very few that are function are like some porche, mclaren F1, etc

there are very few american cars that have a functional spoiler. A few cars look much better with one, the stealth, the cavelier, porche 911, just to name a few. They are for looks, unless you have a porche, and then its useful. Actually, porche 911(i believe) spoilers adjust their height to the speed you are driving, so you dont take flight.

This is for the most part true. The effect on a car like the Camaro or Firebird is going to be minimal. Strangely enough, the spoiler on the Mark IV Supra Turbo (yes the huge one) will add about 75 lbs. of downforce on the rear wheels and is in fact functional. I found that very interesting, but it is definitely true. Most cars that use a spoiler are too heavy to benefit from a spoiler first of all, and second, don't have enough power in the rear wheels to require it.

Yeah, and those cars will have to do like 100 for it to be functional. How often are you cornering at 100+ MPH?

don't forget that minivans have spoilers now. Don't go to the extreme of a spoiler must be functional. a tasteful spoiler is nothing more then nice trim.
