My new computer will be used for gaming mainly and I'm willing to spend up to $6000 Canadian.

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 @ 3.20 Ghz
Asus Striker II Extreme nForce 790i MB
(2x) nVidia GeForce GTX280
4GB DD3-1600 RAM (Which kind is best?)
64GB (32GBx2) OCZ Core Series SSD
(2x) 500GB WD HD
1000 Watt Power Supply (which kind is best? Is this overkill?)
CoolerMaster Cosmos S Gaming Full Tower
Liquid Cooling for the CPU (Which is best?)

Thanks guys... I know you all recommend buying a more mid-range system and upgrading as needed but this is the way I have to go. :)

Get the QX9650 as you won't see any difference and it will overclock just as well as 9770
Well, 4870X2 is expected to be better but if you can't wait that long get just 1 GTX280 as 1 is sufficient for everything except for Crysis at vey high settings at 1920x1200 or higher.
If you want DDR3, why not wait for triple channel?
500gb is as cost effecitve as 640gb and 750gb now so might as well get the bigger drives.
For 2 GTX280s and an OCed quad, you'll want at least 70A on 12V rail to be safe so 1KW PSU wouldn't be overkill but look for the ones with 80A rather than 70A on 12V rail. Or better yet, get a 1200W PSU in case you want triple SLI.
For H2O, do some research in "cases & cooling" and ask aigomorla
And I really don't see how you'll spend more than $4000 ($5000 maybe if you don't get the best prices) so $6000 isn't necessary.

Well the reason most will make that recommendation is that you can get 95%+ performance for about 1/3 the price, not many people view it as logical to spend 3x $$'s for a 5% performance increase. And as fast a tech changes in six months your $6 grand rig will be worth maybe $1500

For example the rig I,m typing this on has a Q9450 yorkie quad running 3.2ghz (same core and frequency as the QX9770) and I paid a little over $300 for it. I can clock it up to 3.8ghz stable if I want I just choose to save energy. If you must have 4ghz+ wait a couple of weeks for the Q9600 to bes intro'd at $500 and it should overclock in the same neighborhood as the QX9770. IMO the QX9770 is strickly an epenis enhancer

DDR3 shows improvements of roughly 2% over DDR2 and is 4x the price, definately not worth it.

SSD's again are an improvement in search times but lose to conventional drives in other areas and overall performance is a toss up, definately not worth the price diff. And for the conventional drives use the WD6400AAKS, newer large platter tech

High end custom water systems are only slightly better than good air cooling, commercially available packages are usually the same or worse than good air and cost many times more.

And don't even get me started on SLI:( and by the by you don't list a monitor which is where you should spend a good share of your budget and on which you should base you GPU selection

Simply put you selection of components is epenis stroking at it's finest.

$6000 canadian OR even $3000 usd will only net you about a 50% improvement at most over a $500 system. And barely 20% over a $1000 system and barely 10% over a $2000 system. And it will definitely not improve your game play significantly over a $500 rig. Not sure what you want to accomplish but if your parents are giving out money or you found a sack of cash lying in the dumpster in an alley I could sure use some too.

BTW liquid cooling is going out of style since air cooling with multiple pipes is just as efficient. Unless you're tight on space or looking for the cool factor.

Thanks for your input guys.... Could you try giving me specs for a good $4000 system? A break down of parts like I gave perhaps?

BTW, I have a 24" Dell Monitor and my speakers are good too so leave those out.
