Need help on making ~50 ft usb cable

Hi everyone,

I wanna make ~50ft of usb 1.0/1.1 cables, but I have a question. I know that I need an amplifier for the signal for every 15 ft or so. At www.callcct.com, they sells USB active extension cable, 16 feet. Now do I need to buy 3 of those OR 2 of those and get one 15 ft regular cable (cheaper). Thanks

What USB device are you talking about connecting?
Have you considered using ethernet connection, instead of USB?
If this is for home use, there's ethernet over home wiring solutions. I think I saw some RCA branded devices (ethernet over home wiring) on clearance at Target. If this is for connecting a computer with a USB printer, you could use a $30 ethernet to USB (or parallel) adapter.
Linking/daisychaining 3 USB cables together for 50 feet, just seems kind of klunky.

The USB is used for hooking up a ps2 controller. Did you say to use a usb to RJ-45 adapter? Do you need a signal booster for that? Thanks

I believe the maximum length for a USB cable is 5 meters (About 16 feet).

I'd just get a wireless PS2 controller. I got one for my XBox and it works great! (logitech)

I kinda always wondered the same myself. While back I wanted to link up a bunch of USB wires from my computer to my dorm's hallway so I could keep an eye on it.

The maximum length would be 16ft, but if you use the active link (signal amplifier) you can daisy chain them (upto 5, according to the information I dug out from the net). I was just wondering whether I need 3 signal amplifier or just 2. Since the signal amplifier (as mentioned above) is a lot more than a regular usb cable, I wanted to save some money. Thanks
