Need Help On Floppy Drive

My floppy worked yesterday morning not until I put it on my other computer I was trying to boot up my other comp but then when i tried to put it back in it would work it said (floppy disk(s) (40)

what does that mean?

and also i had a fdd cable it broke but i replaced it with another one but im not sure its the same one

does it matter or doesnt it?

please help me

did you connect up the power to the floppy?

did you connect floppy cable up correctly?

is there a light on the floppy when you go to boot up? if so clear indication that it is connected wrong

then what about bios is it set correctly?

Ya it light up red in the begining.

I tried everyway of plugging it in.

so I think it might the bios,but how can i fix it?

does the light on the floppy drive stay lit up? if so then you have it connected wrong. make sure that the floppy cable is connected correctly. there is a twisted piece on the floppy cable that is the end that goes to the floppy drive. should be connected to last connector.

if that dont work go into bios and make sure floppy is enabled in bios

Ya its lit up but never tried swiching the twis but yet.

but im at a libary right now so wat if that dont work..

its the cable then if it is staying lit up.........try switching it around and also make sure the red strip is towards the motherboard itself. as it is reversed to the other cables such as the hard drives and cdroms.
