I've never heard of this guitar company, but that probably doesn't count for much.

If I were you, however, I would start off with a guitar that's a little bit cheaper - this one is the one I'd recommend for a first-timer.

I like Schecters. I've been playing guitar for 20 years, and hadn't heard about them until 2 years ago. I was told they were a good guitar company, but wasn't convinced till I tried one out. I really liked it! Granted, it was a higher model than this, so I'm not saying their $399 line is great. But Schecter itself makes some nice guitars. I'd like to own one.

Getting a Floyd Rose bridge for a first guitar might not be a great idea. It will be in PITA to change strings, but if you are planning on getting the shop to change your strings and set it up, it might not be that big of a deal.

I found this guy on ebay selling his for 400 bucks, and I'm asking for 300 bucks
If he accepts, do you guys think that this would be a steal?

Schecters are pretty cool guitars. Stop in at your Guitar Center and plug one in. I still think the best guitar you can buy is one you can put your hands on first.

Nice guitar, but don't let the Floyd Rose scare you. Even if you are an experienced, but never touched a Floyd, you'd still have the issues a beginner would. A floyd isn't rocket science, and isn't hard to maintain. Just read up on it, get an idea how to use it, and you're good to go. If a tremelo isn't something you need, I prefer ESP. This is a really nice one with a tune o matic bridge and string through body.

If you can get that Schecter for 300, go for it.

I have a schecter devil tribal (think its discontinued now...) payed $500 for it, and its awesome. Great tone, looks sharp, plays really well. My friend liked it so much he bought a schecter. Great bang for the buck, but its not going to be a PRS or anything.

I got a free (he was gonna throw it away) vintage Hondo Les Paul friday. It rocks. I haven't been playing for too long, but I think it's excellent for a beginner. Look into a Les Paul model. Easy to maintain, easy to change strings, plays like a dream. Only downside is that it doesn't have a tremolo/whammy bar.. Meh.

I was at GC this morning for their labor day sale. They had tons of stuff on sale. The place was insane. I have a very old Kramer guitar that I got 20 years ago and never learned to play. I just got it out of storage 2 months ago and now I play it every day. Picked up a fender amp this morning. The Schecters seem really nice. I played a few and they felt and played great. I'm a beginner so take it for what it's worth. I hope to get a new guitar for x-mas.

The ones I'm looking at are:

i have a Vintage Mahogony Gibson Les Paul...I wouldnt reccomend you getting one since your a beginner, but they are an excellent deal. $900 at musiciansfriend for a $1000+ guitar. steal. plays beautifully.
if your looking into schechters, Id go on ebay and look at the Schechter Omen's. Their is a guy on ebay who sells a bunch of B-stock ones for around $200 which is an EXCELLENT deal. The B-stocks just have a scratch or two and doesent effect playability, so its an awesome deal. I know several people who have purchased from him and are more than happy.
