Need help on editing my videos

Last week I attended a talent show and decided to video capture it using my P&S camera, Sony DSC-W7. During the beginning of the show I had it set up on the +2.0EV setting which caused my videos to look extremely dark. Luckily I did not wait till the end of the show to correct the settings, but some of the videos are already affected by the improper setting. Can somebody point me towards the direction on how to fix the problem? Thanks :)

Are you using an editor that has either a contrast filter or color correction? Cut at where you changed the settings. Then, bump the brightness or gamma.

What editor are you trying it with?

I normally use Windows Movie Maker as my editor, but I'm also looking forward to other alternative solutions for advanced video editing. I had just noticed that Avid FreeDV is no longer available for download as I was checking out the "Freeware programs and applications" thread, so I'm currently open to any other alternative free software.

Do you think that the problem is solvable or is it permanent?

Videospin seems like a trial version application rather than free software..

From the FAQ:
Will VideoSpin still work after 15 days if I do not purchase the advanced codec pack?

Yes VideoSpin will still work, but you will not be able to create or edit MPEG-2, MPEG-4/DivX, or Dolby Digital 2 Channel files

Not being able to create or edit MPEG-2 or DivX clips seems like a real downer...

I'd suggest Premiere Elements or another cheap(ish) solution...

If you need to see what it's like, I believe there is a trial version on Adobe's website you can download.
