Need Help on CPU

Ok here is my dilemma. I am building my new PC atm. I have about 3-4 weeks before i need to have it finished since i sold my last one to a buddy who is making payments to me (i get to keep and play on my old one until he pays me in full so i can build my new PC)

I also have another friend who works at Intel and can gift me a CPU. The prices are as follows:

Ones i can buy right now:

E6700 - $168.50
E6600 - $123.50
E6320 - $94.50
E4400 - $69.50
E6420 - $104.50

Ones i can get in 6-8 weeks:

Q6700 - $273.50
Q6600 - $145.00
E6850 - $144.00
E6750 - $104.50
E6550 - $94.50

I play games 99% of the time. I do a tiny bit of encoding videos from AVI to DVD format but this is not a priority and works just fine as long as thats all i do on my current rig (FX-55). I cant really wait 6-8 weeks as i would be without a PC for 2-4 weeks and that is not acceptable to me. I really want the Q6600 for that unbelievable price but i just cant wait that long.

My question is for the price and what i do (gaming) which should i purchase and why? I could buy a retail CPU now and have it last me for the next 6 weeks and buy a Q6600 then but he can only buy 1 cpu and gift it to a friend per year. So i would have to buy a retail one. Also my wife may not go for me upgrading in 2 months.....even if i saved the cash now. I dont want to lose any performance from what i have right now with the rig in my sig so i dont think i want to get the E4x00 series. I want to stick with at least the E6X00 series. Im thinking i go with the E6600. I dont want to buy an E4400 and then have the wife decide i cant upgrade in 6 weeks for some woman reason and be stuck with that cpu.

So based on that i have to choose from the first group which would you buy and why? Also i dont really plan on OCing. I will ONLY do that later if i start getting bad performance in games however by the time this rig gets that outdated i will probably just buy a new one.

Oh the rest of the system is as follows:

Gigabyte P35 board - not sure which one yet.
Evga Geforce 8800GTS 640MB
Crucial Ballistix ram - DDR800 2gigs possibly 4 gigs if i save enough on the CPU.
Enermax 500AWT Liberty PSU
Western Digital 250gig Sata 16mb Buffer Hard Drive
Creative X-fi Xtreme Music Sound Card
Thermaltake Armor Series Case with 25cm side fan
Samsung 18x Dvd Burner w/Lightscribe
Windows XP SP2

Buy an E4400 or E6320 now. Use it for 6-8 weeks. Then buy the Q6600 at $145 & sell the E4400 or E6320 for $10-15 less than what you paid for it originally.

As for this:

Use $170 to buy the E4400 & then do the upgrade later. Will she know? No. Things like this keep a marriage strong.

If you don't plan to OC, then the E6850.

Otherwise the overclocked 3Ghz+ Q6600 would be my vote. The Q6600 at stock speed will be slower in games than a dualie with the clockspeed advantage.

Buy a laptop at BestBuy or Costco for the time you won't have a computer. Then in 2-4 weeks, get Q6600. You can then return the laptop and say you didn't like Vista 🙂

People like you should share. Why buy 1 when you can buy 3 or 7 and 'gift' them to us needy people?

he can only buy 1 cpu and gift it to a friend per year.

That's ridiculous, I've bought 3 this year already.

I think that you should do this: buy my e6750 now for $185 and send me the Q6700 in 6-8 wks when it gets there... I'll find something to play games on for the next few weeks to get by.
