Need help on choosing a video card

Why, a 6800u SLI, of course. Unless, you're on a specific budget, then you'll have to tell us more details.

A good midrange card for about $275 is an X800XL... are you looking for something in a different price range?

EDIT: on a $1500 computer I'd be looking at something more like a $400 or $500 card if you game a lot. At least a 6800gt, probably a 6800ultra or X850XTPE.

its for someone who does drafting. He uses a program called "Autocad light" or something
Im going with a AMD 3200 maybe or 3000 also. Im going to use the Nvidia sli motherboard.

what do you think of this card?
Leadtek PX6800TD-256M Geforce 6800 256MB 256-bit DDR PCI-Express x16 Video Card - Retail
Model#:
PX6800TDH-256M

Item#:
N82E16814122207

Price:
$291.00

That's a regular 6800.

Actually an X800XL is a very nice card for the pricerange considering the 6800gt in PCI-e is a significantly more than the AGP version.

It would probably be easier to just work out a whole system and then see what kind of videocard we could work in.

So, $1500? Does that include a monitor, speakers, keyboard/mouse, windows?

Is this for gaming primarily?

You might be better off skipping the SLI and getting a read CAD card then. Do you know what sli does? It would be rather tough to get a well rounded SLI system going for $1500 if you need a whole system.

everything is supposed to be $1500 max. I dont think he games. The "Auto cad light" software is supposed to be very graphic intense. Like seeing inside virtual buildings

Yes, i know what sli does. But you can still have just one video card in right?

Yeah, but if you're only going to run one card, you don't need an SLI board.

A cad card is one that's designed to specifically do 3d rendering work. In fact, there's a thread right here in video now about cad cards on a budget.

Does that mean monitor and everything then?

I was thinking this motherboard in case he ever decides he needs room for expansion. But i see where your coming from. The A8V deluxe i could use also.

cad thread

but on a $1500 budget with a sub-$300 monitor, you could certainly work in a $400 or $500 cad card. I'm no expert at all at those so I'm not going to suggest anything.

I think you should also try to work 2gigs of ram into the system since its so cheap and 3d rendering stuff would actually benefit from it if I have my facts right.

if you have an nvidia sli mobo, get dual 6800gts or ultras for best performance. that is if you can afford it. if not get a single 6800 ultra.
