I need some help here guys.I need yous to tell me what's the best system to put 2gether for my budget & where to get the stuff from.I already have somebody who's gonna put everything 2gether for me once i get all the parts.Anyway i'm willing to spend up to $1000 on this setup.I need everything to be silver to match with my desk & other stuff in my house.I use my compter for downloading & burning.I need something that i can leave on most of the day w/o over heating. Also i need something fast as i like to search the web while i'm d/l & burning.I also do alot of unraring stuff. So plz all the help counts.

Also i'm looking to put 2gether a system for my girls lil sister for about $500-$600.All she needs it for is to search the web & listen to music & maybe burn acouple of disc.Nothing special but i need the whole setup. Moniter/Keyboard/Mouse etc.Same goes for the one above but i'm looking for a LCD that i can watch tv on.Maybe there's a nice tv tuner card out there.

get a good silver aluminum antec/chieftec/chenming case witha doro that covers the drive bays. i got mine in black with a large window from coolerguys. you can also find colored mouse/keyboard combos at sites like http://www.frozencpu.com/ (very nice and good site/store! check out thier reseller rating). as far as components, get whatever mobo, i like VIA chipsets, but it's up to you if you're not overclocking it doesn't really matter. throw in 512 DDR and get a 2000+ athlon. depending on your budget, go for radeon 9500 pro or 9700pro/non-pro. the rest is pretty easy to figure out

as far as the cheaper computer, look for something like a ass a7n266-vm. it has integrated AC97 audio, integrated geforce2, integrated nic, included modem, etc.all you gott do is put in some ddr ram and a cpu and it's ready to go (less things like hard drives). it can be coupled with an athlon 1600 for $128 on pricewatch. all i have to say is check reseller ratting on all those before you buy, and avoid tufshop.

this should get you started in the right direction. hope it helps

Remember people that i'll not be playing any type of games on the main pc so i will not need a really good graphic card.I firgured i can save $$$ buy just getting a simple one.Nothing special.

Also what is more better AMD or P4 ?.I need a system that i can count on.I'm gonna leave it on for most of the day so i dont want it locking up on me.

Both AMD and P4 will run fine without locking up as long as you wanna run em as long as you don't put crap parts in there.

Hmmm. If it's simply a gerneal-use PC, I would say go with the latter motherboard I mentioned, Asus A7N266-VM. The DDR will give you good performance, and due to the integrated components, you can save big $$$. The integrated Geforce2 is enough to play games like RtCW and even Simcity 4 (provided you have enough RAM). I'm a RAM whore, so I would plop in 512MB Crucial for $80 (and have them 3 day FEDEX it for free). Couple that mobo with that RAM and as fast of a processor as you're willing to buy (the mobo may need a BIOS update to support the newer 333MHz Bartons if you're going that route). This should save you great deal of of breathing room. If you take the aformentioned combo for $128 with good quality RAM for $80, you're up to $302 to spend on case, PSU, HDD, CD-RW, floppy?, keyborad, mouse, moniter, and anything else you might need.

P.S. Inexpensive flat-screen CRTs can be had for $200 nowadays.

Hi,
I've just spent hours and hours researching a computer for me. I bought my stuff exclusively at Newegg.com
Here is what I have ordered so far:
Item List
ASUS Motherboard NFORCE2 A7N8X DELUXE (Qty=1,Price=142.99)
DDRAM 256MB 32MX8 PC-3200C2 CORSAIR X (Qty=2,Price=150.00)
Western Digital 400JBHD 40GB|WD 7200RPM 8MB CACHE (Qty=1,Price=77.00)
CPU AMD 1700+ 1.4 ATHLONXP TBRED Retail (Qty=1,Price=61.00)
CDRW 52x24x52|LITE ON LTR52246 BLK (Qty=1,Price=50.00)

Subtotal:480.99
TAX:.00
Shipping and Handling Charge**:6.00
Total:486.99

Needs: Case, Monitor, Video Card, Keyboard, Mouse approx. cost = $500(more or less depending, of course) recommend ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder for your video card ATI All In Wonder Link

OR This in conjuction with a separate video card TV Card

I spent extra on the DDRAM. You could spend quite a bit less.
If you like to burn a lot then you might get a Plextor CDRW for around $85 at newegg
You would probably want at least the 80GB Western Digital Hard drive to store music (or make use of IEEE 1394, or USB2.0 hard drive that works on this motherboard. (that way you can take your hdd to a friends to share music and files easily and quickly) Infact this motherboard is the badest I've ever seen.
Link to this motherboard

For a thousand bucks, I can help recommend you a terrific machine

if you're going to spend $77 on a 40 GB hard drive, you really should just put down that extra $19 and get the same model in 80 GB

I would agree completly with the guy who said buy Dell, but would also say to reccomend the Dell to your friend. Setting up PC's for friends and relatives seems cool and all but the headache's it causes you in supporting these folks is NEVER worth it. Send them to Dell who has excellent telephone and on-site support. When purchasing a Dell just make sure you check out the Hot Deals sections and purchase nothing extra(thats where they pound you on price) aside from the extended service warranty, for the same reasons as mentioned above its worth every single extra penny paid for it.

For yourself heres a big tip. Wait. I know waiting is the thing noone ever wants to hear and you do have to buy sometime though the technology gets better daily but since you posted this on 4/8 heres some advice. Intel 865 and 875 chipsets are coming out SOON. I think 875 is being released this monday 8/14. Very soon 865 will follow as well as the 3.2 P4 and the retro chips with 800 FSB. Prices are going to drop like mad on all other intel chips and you can probably pick up a kick butt chip for nothing.

P.S. I am usually an AMD fella but the 2.4 p4's are actually beating the 2600+ in price/performance especially if you grab a SiS 655 board.
