Need help on a MOVIE PROJECT!

I need to find movie's for good montage sequence examples. For those of you not fimilar with this filming technique I will give the definition:
"A Segment of a film that summarizes a topic or compresses a passage of time into a brief symbolic or typical images. Frequently dissolves, fades, superimpositions and wipes are used to link the images in a montage sequence"

An example would be in Rocky when Eye of the Tiger comes on and you see Rocky training, and another (common) example in movies would be when you see various newspaper headlines going across the screne to show time moving on event after event. Can anyone think of any good specific examples? I have to pick one or two movie's that have a montage sequence in them and right now I'm stumped!

Get it from the man who created it...

Sergei M. Eisenstein - Battleship Potyomkin

Montages isn't exactly that either. The idea behind a montage is actually to place 2 ideas or images in sequence to create a third idea or image.

pulse8: Thanks for the example & for clearing things up! Do you happen to know of any other more modern uses?

Well, the more modern use is are the ones you're describing. A collection of images to show the passing of time generally. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything. Of course it's because I'm trying to think of something. 🙂 I'll think about it for a while and see if I can't come up with anything. When is this project due? What exactly do you have to do for the project?

Haven't seen it in a couple of years, but I do believe Citizen Kane has the type of scene you're looking for. There are a MILLION movies with this, but I'm thinking for some kind of school project you would probably want something classic or at least good. 🙂
