Hello,
I just built a new system this afternoon. Everything worked fine. Then I loaded XP Pro. I checked the system performance in the control panel and it stated 1100MHz. I then went into the BIOS and changed the system performance in the advanced chipset features to "expert". I increased the FSB frequency to 153MHz and saved the settings. It then boots in XP for a split second and reboots. I then changed the FSB to 140MHz and the computer seems to be stable. However, at 140MHz, it's far from stock speeds. I even set the BIOS at "load optimized defaults" and again it defaults at 1100MHz in the control panel. What do you think is the problem? Here are my system specs.

CASE ANTEC|Sever Tower SLK2600AMB w/ 300PSU
MB NFORCE2 SL-75FRN2-RL SOLTEK*
VGA|MSI RX9600PRO-TD128 RT
DDRAM ROSEWLL|512MB PC3200 RET
AMD|2500 /333 ATHLON XP BARTON
HD 80GB|WESTERN DIGITAL 7200RPM 8MB WD800JB
LOGTECH KEYBOARD AND MOUSE
CDRWLITEON52X32X52X
AOpen SPEAKERS 2.0
VIEWSONIC|17" CRT E70FB BLACK

Thank you!

Maybe you have the multiplier set wrong.
A 2500+ runs at 1.83GHz so that's:

11x166MHz

Also make sure memory is running at 166MHz as well.

What kind of temp reading are you getting?

I just ran a Prime95 blend torture and it failed in less than 1 minute @ 150Mhz x 11(1650Mhz) 1.6 Vcore. Prior to the test , I downloaded the lastest ATI drivers, thinking that would work, but it didn't. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the input. How do I make the memory run at 166MHz? My temps are good, 34c on the CPU socket , 38c on the CPU diode and 27c case.

I guess 1:1 ratio divider between FSB and memory would put memory at 166. Some BIOS's handle it differently.

I also noticed that in system performance it states that I have an "unknown CPU type". I know for a fact that this comes up with XP-M processors, but is it also the same with non-mobile Barton CPU's? Just curious.

Just downloaded CPU-Z and it says:

Processor name: XP-M
Code name: Barton
Specification: Unknown CPU type

I guess Newegg sent me a mobile chip.
