I just put it together yesterday when the mobo finally arrived. After installing all the hardware I turned it on for the first time and there is nothing on the monitor. I tried a different monitor to make sure the monitor wasn't the problem (since I hadn't used it in a long time) but it was the same with a different monitor. Also, even though I have power to the cd drive, the cd tray will not open, and the light on the front isn't lit. The fans are all running, including the fan on the video card. Im thinking I'll put the mobo on cardboard with only ram, video card, and cpu installed to try and see if maybe it's shorting out on the case or something.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Brandon

Also, there are no error beeps. But when I first turned it on there was a long single beep which was due to me forgetting to plug power into the video card, but I corrected that.

You should always test on the bench before installing.

Before connecting the psu to the mb on the bench, connect it to the cd drive. Short the green lead on the mb connector to a black lead to start the psu. Then try the drive.

The cd drive works when the psu isn't connected to the mobo. I tried it the way you suggested.

When I tried only ram, vid, and cpu on cardboard it still didn't work. Also tried with different ram that I know is good, and a different video card. I dont have any other processors or mobos that are socket 754 though, so cant test the cpu. :( What do you think it is? bad motherboard?

What part is most likely to be the problem. Im low on money and dont want to go out and get a new motherboard only to find that it was the CPU or the PSU.

Hmm, I just noticed something. On the biostar website it says that the K8T80-A7 mobo supports AMD Sempron 3100+ and the K8T80-A7A supports AMD Sempron 3400+

I ordered my cpu and MB as a bundle from tiger direct that was supposed to come with an AMD Sempron 64 3000+ 1.80GHz / 128KB Cache / 1600MHz FSB / Socket 754 / Hyper-Transport / 64-Bit (Palermo) and a Biostar K8T80-A7 Via Socket 754 ATX Motherboard.

Well, they sent me a Biostar K8T800-A7A motherboard and im not sure if its compatible with the cpu or not.

i was going to suggest the cpu as the culprit, as there are no beep codes present.

i think that would be your best bet. you might want to research that mb to make sure of the compatibility with the cpu
