I'm noob, so take it easy :D

I currently have a 2.4b processor that i have had for 6 months now. And i was wondering if it was even worth it to overclock? The other weird thing is that i have an Intel D865PERLK - which doesnt have any built in overclocking features in the BIOS. So im not sure how to go about overclocking. The other feature that scares me is that i only have 2100 speed ram (1gig dual channel). And ive heard stories that 2100 speed ram isnt good to overclock with. I also have a spark7 for a heatsink/fan. Please give me some past experiences/tips on overclocking my setup.

Also! I'm looking to purchase some pc400 RAM, would that help my overclocking capabilities? if so... what should i look for in ram?

also... the bios has a feature called Burn-In-Mode which increases some value by 1-2-3-4 percent, anyone know about this?

the 2.4b is worth overclocking. any desktop PC CPU is worth an overclock for that matter.

i have no experience with your mobo. given it isn't an OCers choice, you probably won't find many who have OCed it. you need to check your mobo manual to see if it has jumpers for FSB clock & how they are used. being an intel, i doubt it has PCI/AGP lockdown... & you probably have a locked 2.4b, so multipliers are likely pointless. fsb jumpers are likely your only tool, so that's how you'd overclock it.

as far as how high you can go with the 2100 depends greatly on the brand. search around and you should get an idea of how high you should be able to go. most of the time RAM is the limiting factor with an OC if you can't either lock it down or adjust it separately.

as far as cooling, the spark7 should be fine for the amount of heat you can produce before your RAM goes south. more exotic cooling will be pointless. you should also make sure your case is adequately ventilated, and that your heatsinks are secured well with some sort of thermal jiz (AS3 is preferable).

once you get the jist of how to adjust your clock settings on your mobo, you should increment up by the smallest amount each time and do a decent test using SiSoft sandra CPU burn in & ram burn in, as well as 3dmarks test. you should loop each of these tests for at least an hour, preferably 4hrs each, to ensure your pieces have reached max temperature. keep upping then testing until it glitches, then clock it back a notch. you shouldn't damage anything this way.

Look at my 2.4b!!!! I don't even really push it. Can get 3.33ghz but need 1.7v to do it.....

Do your research and get a quality board. If you go i865/i875 make sure you find out which boards run well with the 533fsb chips still....

Thats what i'm really interested in doing... I would need to sell this in order to get a new motherboard though and i would be out a motherboard for awhile and i can't do that :(
