Need Help! Mushkin PC3500 L2 on a D875PBZ

I just built a new rig 3 days ago and I had major freakin' issues getting XP Pro to install. After countless hours of attempts, I finally succeeded installing XP without bluescreening today.

Now That I have XP installed, at first it ran great. I was able to configure a Network place and get on the internet and get some Windows updates and stuff, but things slowed down for my OS later on.

Now I'm at the point where XP will load up nice n' fast, but when I go to view my network places or launch explorer, the system takes a long ass time to perform these functions. I'm at the point where I'm convinced it's my RAM timings, and I think I may have to alter their configuration.

My mobo is an Intel D875PBZ, and I have 1GB Mushkin 3500 Level 2 RAM (2 x 512 sticks). Right now, I have the BIOS setting the RAM timings automatically and the timings are 2-2-2-6. Mushkin is supposedly quite capable of timings like this, but I'm concerned that maybe my mobo can't support these timings.

Does anyone have any advice on what timings I should try for this RAM and mobo combo in an attempt to find stability?

Does anyone have any other ideas on what may be slowing my OS down besides the RAM & mobo?

When I got my 875PBZ, I had acquired HyperX ram and tried numerous timings with no system stability. I had so many problems, I toasted the bios and had to get another board. I had to turn in the ram for a type that is listed on Intel's approved ram list for that mobo.
