Need help ! monitor not working

I put my monitor (17" Gateway) facing back to back with a small TV for a short while - 2 weeks (shouldn't have done this) and now the monitor shows nothing. You can tell that it has power on it (the green light is on but it is not blinking though in the off mode). If I turn it off and turn it on, there is a picture but it only stays for 3 seconds and it's gone.

By the way, I have checked all the cables connected to the monitor and the computer, they are fine.

Has anyone experience this before? Is my monitor dead (I hate to throw this monitor away) ?
