IT DOES THE SAME WHEN I TAKE THE CPU ALL THE WAY OUT! LOL...

Are you sure you are getting the CPU fully into the socket? Have you tweaked a few pins? Did you dislodge something else? Go over everything with a fine tooth comb. You may surprise yourself.

thank you, but yes, im sure it's ok physically.. i never removed the chip in the firts place :) just took old heatsink off and popped new one on...then tried to reboot... then, i eventually tried everything, including removing the cpu, and the same happens each time as decribed above... keyboard flash, power-up on fans and drives, but no beeps and no video....uhhg.. lol.. sucks...

im about to drop the cpu into another working system (the one im on) and see what happens... cross your fingers, but if someone could still please try to answer, id appreciate it. thanks ahead of time.

Reset bios.
Autoset CPU (MHZ/FSB)

Check Ram

Make sure that nothing is laying on the ESC key of your keyboard, ie., Monitor cable.

Check keyboard/mouse connections.

Question: Did you disconnect the power BEFORE you changed out the heatsink (be honest)?

Also.... if you did not reconnect the CPU fan wire.. you may have overheated the CPU (bad).

Get back to us.

Maybe you knocked the video card a bit and now it's not fully seated..... Check that....

I've had the same problem. it's your cpu. you either burned it up or it's not seated properly..

thanks for all input so far...

1) i did disconnect everything, including power, before i changed the heatsink.
2) the heatsink was seated wrong for ONE bootup, but when windows fuzzed out with a weird protection fault, i turned all off, checked, and sure enough, re-seated the heatsink correctly.... in that time, i think i fried it with high temps.... sucks!! uhhg...
3) i put the cpu into my other abit board and it has the same prob, so, easily deduced: cpu prob..

ok, with that in mind, DOES ANYONE KNOW THE BEST DEAL GOING ON A 1 gHz chip? i just payed too much for one at a marketpro show... need a better deal, ill just use the OC rig in the system to push it to 1200+... like i plan to do with this one once i get the case rigged up... they're all so damn cheap now anyways...

thanks for all the help!

your best bet (like always) is pricewatch. Just find the cheapest one and look it up on resellerratings.com (I think that's it). Do that or wait a week or so and check the hot deals/fsft forums, and your bound to find something $10-20 cheaper if you check often. I would do the pricewatch way though, cuz constantly checking the fsft forums IN HOPE of finding something cheaper isn't worth 10 bucks to me. It's your money though! Good luck..

Dang... hate it when shiznit like that happens...

Just curious... how long did it take to fry the CPU? (I know its painful to talk about now... and you don't have to answer... but it would be for posterity...lol)

Sorry bro.

Check ANAND's review of CPU prices. I think he runs them (might just be the motherboard and ram though).

You might check shoppers.com or pricewatch.com.

Cybor: lol.. it's allll good i guess... funk it..

umm, how long? lol, that's the scarey thing, the system was booted with the backwards heatsink for less than 60 seconds!!!... probably like 50 seconds or so... and bam.. fried... bigtime.

saddest part? i had a limited copper-core unlocked t-bird (greenish) 750...

oh well, it will be neat looking in my cpu/mobo graveyard.... hmmph..

thanks all for help. ill find a deal...
