I've never broken the 4gb barrier, but I'm building a new system with 8gb RAM on Vista x64.

I'm wondering what is the best way to make use of all of this RAM to speed up application performance?

Cheers!

More posts will help, posting the same question in as many subforums as possible will make Vista run so much better...

Are you kidding dude? Why don't you chill out a bit... I posted in 2 subforms - the memory and OS forums, big deal - and hardly "as many subforums as possible". Not everyone has 21000 posts and views every forum, so I figured if the memory people couldn't help the OS people could. Get away from the PC for 5 minutes and get some fresh air - maybe you won't feel the need to be so passive aggressive on an internet forum.

Thanks Pabster for answering the question - I'm new to Vista; good to hear it will handle it for me.

Specifically, Superfetch in Vista will take care of it for you. It will take a few weeks for Superfetch to be trained properly, but after that there is little the end user has to worry about in maximizing RAM usage.

One possibility is a RAM drive, whereby you allocate some of the RAM to act as a hard drive. Note that this drive will typically be deleted on every reboot, but some programs will do continuous backups if you wish. While your first impulse might be to toss the pagefile on this drive, that is rather inefficient, the drive is best used for application swap space (such as in Photoshop) or temporary files. You could even run a whole app or game off it, keeping in mind the limitations of a RAM drive.
