Need help making Intellimouse w/ Intelli-eye movement less jagged.

I have pulled out the old game Rogue Spear and am finding that when I am zoomed in with a gun that there is a definite jaggedness to the movement of the mouse. When I try to pan from lower left to upper right it does it in a small stepping pattern instead of a smooth line. One of the reasons I upgraded to a mouse with the intelli-eye is because I thougth it got rid of most of that...and it seemed to for a while...but now it's back with this game. I have the most recent Intelli software installed (Intellipoint I believe). Is there a way to smooth this out? There is a place to adjust the mouse sensitivity but I believe that's for changing the speed at which you rotate vs. mouse movement and not for fixing what I'm looking to fix. Help!...thanks.
