A few days ago, my NB fan started sputtering. Today, the other day, the thing completely died. As of now, without the fan running, my computer seems to be running stable. I'm not really that hardware savvy so i'm not sure if it is safe for the computer to run without a fan. So, my question is, how will not having a fan affect my performance? My computer isnt overclocked yet, so i'm not sure if heat is going to be a problem.

If it is a problem, what are some chipset coolers that would work well with the is7?

Thanks in advance...

Remove that funky-lookin' fan and see if you could just screw a new fan onto the heatsink in its place. Otherwise, email Abit and ask for another fan. Good luck! :)

Take the fan off, put a drop of heavyweight oil in the bearingway. That should get the fan going again and keep it going till you find another fan. You could replace the whole northbridge but if you're going to do that (and the CPU 'sink blows towards it) you might consider a passive heatsink instead, like the this or this Zalman. Otherwise just get another fan as mechBgon suggested.

Another suggestion is to get a Vantec Iceberg or similar product. It's a new heatsink and fan combo like you have now, either in all copper or aluminum. Link here you have to scroll to the bottom though. It's under "chipset" CCB-A1C for the all copper, A1A for aluminum.
