I just bought an ATI X800SL for a Dell Dimension 4550 to drive a Dell 2405FPW. I'm at the point in the manual that says that I MUST download the newest AGP drivers for my motherboard/chipset. After following the instructions to determine what I have, I've found this under System in Device Manager

Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/GV Processor to AGP Controller - 2561

After going to Intel's support website, I am having a difficult time determining exactly what I need to download. I searched on the above info, but the results seem to state that I shouldn't download this file if I'm using a 3rd party video card. Dell's support website provides an Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility with a release date of 9/17/02.

I don't know if I need a motherboard upgrade, a chipset upgrade, a BIOS upgrade, or what. After a fair amount of research, I can't tell what I need or which versions. I don't want to cause more problems since I finally got this thing working good on VGA.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm stuck!

You can probably skip that. Manuals always say a bunch of things as to avoid possible issues, but most of the time you don't need to update everything. If there's no newer driver on the Dell website, a newer driver for your mobo may not exist. So just plug the card in, install the latest version of the Catalyst drivers and go.

If it isn't broke don't worry about it.
