Need Help Installing Windows XP

I just got my hard drive replaced with a new one. I wanted to install Windows XP on it but my Windows XP CD is apparently not bootable. I tried running setup.exe through command, but it told me the program could not be run in DOS mode. So I had to boot from the WinME CD, install Windows ME, then install Windows XP. But when I Installed XP, it deleted the old Windows folder, however there is some junk left over from the ME installation such as things in the "Program Files" folder. I want to reinstall XP now (fresh) and format the hard drive (or at least delete everything on it). How would I go about doing this?

Thanks for your help.

Like was said legal copies are bootable. That being said, you want to run winnt.exe from the \i386 directory if you want to install from DOS.

OK, I tried running winnt.exe from the /i386 folder and that worked, however I want to format the hard drive. When I type format c: from the DOS prompt it does not recognize the command it says invalid command or something. How do I format my hard drive?
