Wow where do I start? My friend had a install of windows that was in real bad shape. We decided to do a reinstall since it was so messed up. The reinstall was uneventful. It was an install of windows 98 SE. After installing it says operating system can not be found? We have done it 3 times and got the same result. help!!!

Check if you have a boot sector virus. That might sometimes be the cause of your problems. You might also want to check that Boot Virus Proctection is OFF in the BIOS....that may prevent Win98 writing information to the MBR.

I just remembered. I used fdisk to make a new partition. The drive did have several partitions on it. I forgot to delete the previous partitions. It shows as just one partition now. Could this be the problem? I should have deleted the previous partitions.

Prolly!!!

Get rid of all the partitions and reinstall! Make sure to format the main partition to allow Windows to see it!! Also make sure in Fdisk that the 1st partition is active.

When you do re-partition the drive, remember to fdisk /mbr, to remove anything on the MBR...

Good luck,

Edblor
