Need help installing temp sensor probes

I am building a new PC with this case. It comes with a temp guage on the front panel. It also conveniently comes with no instructions. It has 2 temperature probes, 1 marked 'CPU' and the other marked 'HDD'. I am not sure where exactly to place these or what the proper way to install them is. So if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated. Maybe there is a site that has a guide or something?
 
Ok, after doing a little reading it seems the lead can be place either on top of the cpu (not the die) or taped to the side of the heatsink. The problem is it was talking about using some kind of high temperature thermal tape. But I don't have any. Can I just use scotch tape?
